Henry Thomas (E.T., All the Pretty Horses) delivers a strong and sensitive performance as Raymond Toker, a withdrawn young loner who stumbles upon an abandoned newborn infant in the woods. Toker searches his sparsely populated community for clues to the missing mother and a home for the infant. He crosses paths with a young girl haunted by the disappearance of her sister, and local beauty Roby (Cara Seymour), who just wants a way out of town. A fast-talking traveling salesman, Truman Lester (David Strathairn), bumps into Toker and the baby at the local general store, and can't conceal his disturbing fascination with the radiant child.
